To become a C-TPAT partner, you must apply online at www.cbp.gov. You will need to provide the following information: Company name, Address, Corporate structure, Scope of the business and its  supply chain, Key contact information for your company’s representative and senior management executive, The name of any foreign CTPAT trade zones which your company uses in its operations.

Nine Items To Create A Secure CTPAT Supply Chain:

1. Establish security criteria for employees, business partners and CTPAT carriers.

2. Identify and implement effective, risk-based physical access controls.

3. Secure facilities from both internal and external threats using detection systems, guards and/or fences

4. Implement a process to ensure that containers are sealed (if required) by a trained individual at the facility.

5. Ensure that containers are free of tampering upon arrival at your location via visual inspection, x-ray and/or seals

6. Ensure that at least one employee is trained in the physical security guidelines outlined in C-TPAT

7. Develop a plan to handle situations where best practices cannot be achieved.

8. Develop a methodology to collect, analyze, share and report CTPAT security-related issues found during routine operations.

9. Implement program updates resulting from feedback received from CBP

WHAT ARE CTPAT AUDIT REQUIREMENTS

The Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism  is a voluntary supply chain security program led by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and focused on improving the security of private companies’ supply chains with respect to terrorism. C-TPAT-certified companies are vetted on an annual audit basis in order to keep the c-tpat certification current. C-TPAT certification will help to mitigate risk from a compliance perspective in cases where US companies are exporting or importing into USA.

C-TPAT is a customs audit for the supply chains security to trade with US. A supply chain security consultant facilitates the ctpat audit to determine whether a client’s shipping protocols meet safety standards created by Customs and Border Protection. Client companies that pass the audit are awarded a ctpat certificate, the “Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism” certificate.

CTPAT Minimum Security Criteria
